Please keep to the marked trail and away from the water’s edge where the shoreline is uneven or unstable. Conditions can change quickly with wind and rain, so check the forecast before you set out. Water levels along the lake shore can rise without warning, so take extra care near jetties, slipways and low-lying paths. Your cooperation helps keep the Blueway safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Lough Derg Blueway follows the shores and waterways of one of Ireland’s most beautiful inland lakes. For centuries, the lake and its surrounding communities have been shaped by water – as a route for travel, trade and daily life.

Blueway Accreditation

Lough Derg Blueway is part of Ireland’s growing network of accredited Blueways — multi-activity recreational trails that offer accessible and enjoyable ways to explore waterways and the landscapes around them. To ensure consistently high standards, each Blueway must successfully complete an accreditation process before launch and every three years thereafter. This helps support high-quality visitor experiences, environmental care and strong connections with local communities and businesses.
