Getting to Arranmore
– Burtonport Blueway

The Arranmore – Burtonport Blueway is located off the coast of County Donegal along the Wild Atlantic Way and can be accessed via a scenic 20-minute ferry from Burtonport to Arranmore Island. From there you can explore this compact island, which is approximately 5km long by 3km wide.

By Car

From Dublin, take the N2/M2 towards Derry, then follow the N56 towards Burtonport. Follow signage to Burtonport Pier for ferry access to Arranmore Island.

  • Dublin: approx. 4–4.5 hours 
  • Cork: approx. 6 hours 
  • Galway: approx. 3–3.5 hours 
  • Limerick: approx. 4.5 hours

Ferry Access

Regular ferry services operate from Burtonport to Arranmore Island, with crossing times of approximately 15–20 minutes. Depending on the service provider, you can travel as a foot passenger or bring your vehicle. It is recommended to check schedules in advance, particularly during peak season.

Public Transport

Bus services operate to nearby towns such as Dungloe. From there, local taxis can bring you to Burtonport Pier for ferry access. Public transport options on Arranmore Island are limited, so walking or cycling is recommended once on the island.

Blueway Access Points

Visitors typically begin their journey at Leabgarrow. This is the main arrival point on the island via the ferry from Burtonport.
